RAS Express Team
The 2012-2013 RAS Express Team
The Summit has been organized in the SF Bay Area since 2004 with a similar format year after year, making it possible for non profits and individuals working for Afghanistan to network and garner support through the help of volunteers and sponsors met at the yearly event. Workshops have been offered as educational tools and informative platforms to enhance non profits capabilities to operate in Afghanistan as well as become better acquainted with Afghanistan and its people.
The Summit wants to enhance this existing networking event into a more concrete solution oriented team work thus it will launch on October 22snd at UC Berkeley the “2012-2013 RAS Express Team.”
How does it work:
- On the day of the RAS all non profit leaders may enter their organization’s business card in a locked designated box. At some point in the afternoon, the box is brought on stage, unlocked and three organizations are randomly picked from the box
- These three organizations are invited to present a full proposal with budget at the Fall 2012 Northern California RAS. Following the three proposals participants of the Summit will be able to vote on one of the three projects the same day
- The project will have to begin within the month following the Summit and be completed by one month before the next Summit, anyone at the Summit can support the selected project
- A report of the project will be presented at the Fall 2013 Northern California RAS
- All regional RAS can create an Express Team
Benefits:
- Any Summit organizations, audience member and volunteers can support the selected project by signing up for a given position. Sponsors and collaborators are officially acknowledged in press communications and on the selected organization’s website,
- It is the hope that the partnerships generated by the RAS Express Team Project will provide greater impact and long term results in Afghanistan,
- Organized media campaigns will demonstrate Afghans and Americans are working together regardless of their own projects aimed for the betterment of any and all Afghans,
- Smaller and medium non profits will have a chance to really grow and establish concrete project with the support of the RAS Express Team network of organizations
- Organizations of similar focus might rally up their resources and grow into one large effective entity in turn truly effecting change in Afghanistan
Eligibility:
- The RAS Express Team reserves the right to dismiss a candidate organization should this one fail to present a sound and transparent financial record or to have been known to be involved in controversial matters,
- Larger organizations already taking in vast amounts of funding are discouraged to participate as they may not benefit from such partnership
Topic:
Each year a different topic will be in focus. For instance if Health Care is selected for 2012-2013, health Care will not be an RAS Express Team candidate for two consecutive years.
Topics: education (K-12, university level, all professional training, vocational training, business and market development), health care(general medicine, pediatrics, midwifery, dental, veterinary, reconstructive surgery), structural reconstruction-engineering (electricity, buildings, sewer grids, wells, roads, bridges), agriculture(farming, orchard, irrigation, reforestation, sustainability, market development), cultural preservation (language, arts), scientific and professional sector (archaeology, international law, chemistry, business, biology, journalism)
