Dr. Nahid Aziz

Dr. Nahid Aziz is a clinical psychologist and an Associate Professor in the Clinical Psychology Department at Argosy University, Washington, DC.  She received her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University. Dr. Aziz’ dissertation won the best dissertation of the year award which was a clinical manual for mental health professionals treating Afghan immigrant and refugee women. She is a senior consultant to Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a division of US Department of Health and Human services.  Dr. Aziz is the co-chair of the Afghanistan Mental Health Workgroup at Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) that provides technical assistance to the Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan to reconstruct mental health services and develop mental health capacity.  She has co-authored articles and chapter which were published in international professional and academic journals and frequently appeared on international TV and radio talk shows discussing the impacts of acculturative stress on immigrants’ and refugees’ mental health and the mental health and human rights of Afghan women.   Dr. Aziz’s research interests are mental health in conflict and post-conflict regions and mental health of Muslim women.  She is a human rights activist and the Vice President of Afghan Education for A Better Tomorrow, a non-profit organization promoting health and education in Afghanistan.
